About me:
Hello, I’m Michael Cheng - Long time biker, first time Youth Advocate. When I first came stumbled upon a website offering a paid internship to help bicycle riders like myself and refresh the air of Brooklyn, I nearly fainted. I couldn’t say no. I’m a graduating senior from Edward R. Murrow High School with no intentions of learning to drive in the near future because biking has been a convenient and all-around beneficial means of transport in my life. Like many others, I have experienced the plain mess and danger in traversing the loop drive in Prospect Park. More than often, I’ve gotten the unpleasant “Get your bleeping bike off the road!” Well it’s time for a change. I strongly wish to be proactive in this problem, and I’m passionate to do what it takes to circumvent this frustrating obstacle. I want to make biking more safe and attractive for people who like to bike but can’t because of hazardous roads like the loop drive. By attracting and expanding a new generation of bike riders, we can de-pollute the air we breathe; and I can’t express in words how much I enjoy some fresh air (why smoking was ever invented, I still can’t figure out). Furthermore, I deeply admire the thought of people taking action and exercising their constitutional democratic rights.
This summer, I am joining the movement to win a car-free Prospect Park. With the help of my team of passionate and enthusiastic Brooklynites, anything is possible. I want to learn as much as I can about the damage that cars are doing in our park, so that I could inform the public and gather supporters to realize our ultimate goal of creating a green and vivacious space for everybody to enjoy throughout the year. Big changes are coming this summer. Join me and everyone else in saving our park…And let the fun begin.
