Equipped for Safety in a Car-filled Park

Michael and FarahAfter having my bicycle headset repaired by a local bicycle shop in Brooklyn, I rode smoothly on the way to Prospect Park on this warm and breezy summer day. When I arrived at the park, I was warmly greeted by Jessie and Farah. Unfortunately, Oswald and Kelena had to take the day off, but nevertheless, there was work to be done, park-goers to entertained, and postcards to be signed.

Car countOn August 5th Michael, Farah and I set out in the park to work on our daily task: giving out postcards and alerting park-goers about our campaign. Farah went around the Loop Drive, because of the great response we had received there to our Street Theater on Saturday. Michael went up the West Drive to Center Drive. I went around the Long Meadow.

As I stepped out into the glistening summer day, I thought about what today's workday would be like. Millions of situations raced through my mind and I couldn't wait to get to work. When I reached Prospect Park I was surprised to find my supervisor surrounded by what turned out to be huge tree costumes. Well, not exactly trees. More like an interpretation of trees.

If a Tree Falls In a Car-Filled Park, And It Is Too Loud for Anyone To Hear It, Are We Still In a Park?

We began our day by setting up emissions tests at our favorite spot at the Coney Island Exit of the East Loop Drive. This test will allow us to collect the particulates in the air, the pollutants released in car emissions. In order to this, we needed Vaseline, index cards, paper clips, and rubber bands; a very DIY version of emissions testing (EPA Rules? Ha!).
