I am on TV and Everything is Looking Car-Free

Today, this 28th of August, we set out on another adventure of finding our supporters in their corners of Prospect Park. As our march to Bloomberg approaches, and the threat of rallying all by ourselves looms over us, it is even more essential for us to bring people to our event. Today was an ordinary day, another day of handing out postcards and pushing flyers about Brooklyn Brings It to Bloomberg on every park-goer we passed (very important). It was just Kelena and I today, with a goal of 80 postcards each. Today, I had to the Long Meadow, my favorite area, tons of people.

The day was hot, but the people seemed cool enough to sign. My motivation was seeing myself on T.V. yesterday. For the second time I made it onto television, Channel 12 to be exact, and me just a regular boy from Brooklyn. So with a new resolve and good words from my supervisor, that a car free park is potentially in our grasp (Check out what Mayor Bloomberg told the New York Sun! ), I headed out.

Today's walk across the Long Meadow seemed short and as the day grew old, the weather cooled. There was nothing about special today, but one thing that annoyed me, was this lady who total seemed into the car-free idea. She asked me why we wanted cars out and what Transportation Alternatives was. I gave her answers from my soul, feeling very optimistic, only to hear: "I totally support you, but I won't sign." I was crushed that I wasted about 5 minutes talking and accomplished a big old no. I accomplished a tiny bit over 100 postcards, and was happy at the end of the day. As our big event creeps up on us, it is ever so important we get people to come to march with us, and tell Mayor Bloomberg what we want. I feel a rush of excitement and anticipation; we are going to make this park car-free.

Join us on the 15th of September as we, the Prospect Park Youth Advocates, Bring it to Bloomberg!
